Welcome

Hi, my name is Brian Van Camp, and welcome to my website. Here’s a little bit of my history so far.

I was born in Southfield, Michigan, a suburb of Detroit, in 1970. At age 20, I was invited by my brother to attend acting classes at Jeff Daniels’ Purple Rose Theatre in Chelsea, Michigan. I had nothing better to do, so I agreed. Life caught up with him and he backed out, but I saw it through and thus was my introduction to acting complete. After that, the only question was how to pursue a career in it. I immediately quit my job at a Fortune 500 company, and attended the University of Michigan, where after 5 years of hard work I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Theater Performance in 1996.

For the next four years I lived in London, England, pursuing the dream and had the opportunity to take part in several independent films, the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in Scotland, and a few feature films as well.

In 2000 I moved to Munich, Germany, where I lived, on and off, until February of 2008. During my time in Germany I took a hiatus from acting work to spend some quality time with my young son, Tristan, learn the German language fluently, and work freelance for the Bavarian Department of Education, teaching about the Holocaust and Nazi Concentration Camp systems.

In 2005 I returned to the University of Michigan and earned a Masters Degree in Anthropology, while at the same time reintegrating into the worlds of theatre and film, taking part in several theatre productions in Michigan, and a feature film at Precinct 13 in Ohio.
